Welcome to the world of Vacheron Constantin as we explore the Patrimony 40mm in 18k white gold; a manually wound dress watch. This is an ultra thin manually owund dress watch in the classical image of Vacheron’s mid-century formal models from the later 40s through ths 1960s. This model in 40mm evokes it’s vintage forebear with its incredibly slim 6.9mm profile. The Vacheron Constantin caliber 1400 enables the thin profile. The watch proportionally emphasizes a dominant dial surrounded by a thin precious metal halo in white gold punctuated with strong straight lugs also paying tribute to the mid-century style.

The watch features a dial that is both detailed and discrete. Detailed in it’s use of a dimpled minute track outboard of the diamond polished white gold hour indices and discrete in the Patrimony style baton hands as well as a low key and understated Vahcheron Constantin Geneva script underneath the white gold Maltese cross emblem.

Outboard of the dial and lugs, Vacheron Constantin pairs the watch with a semi-gloss black rectangular scale alligator leather strap with a monotone stitch. The strap is thin like the watch and features semi-conforming spring bars to close the gap between the case and strap. This effectively creates a highly integrated look. Outboard of the strap, Vacheron Constantin provides an 18k white gold Maltese cross pin buckle for a vintage appearance and easy on the fly adjustability.

Beneath the dial Vacheorn equips the watch with the caliber 1400. Entirely in-house, the 20 jewel manually winding caliber endows the watch with a 40 hour power reserve. Being only 2.6mm in thickness, this allows the watch to have such an ultra thin profile. It sits low on the wrist and is ideally suited to dress cuffs and formal sleeves.

Beneath the gold case back, allowing the watch a water resistance of 30m and structural rigidity, lies the movement stamped with the Hallmark of Geneva – a sign of haute horology finish and execution.

I love the Patrimony. Elegance and simplicity at its best.

ChestyMD says:

40 is way too large for a dress Watch don’t you think? Even if someone is a fat ass.
