Spotlight On: Breitling Watches. A Guide to their Collections.

Breitling is one of the most revered watch brands in the world; and it is also unrivaled in creating aviation watches. In fact, they’re the only watch brand to equip every major model with chronometer certified movements.

And while Breitling watches are precision instruments, they can certainly be used and enjoyed by all. Check out their major collections, and learn which one is right for you.

Let’s start with the Breitling Navitimer – undoubtedly Breitling’s most famous watch. It was designed to help pilots do all of their calculations with one tool – using its now iconic circular slide rule bezel.

The range of numbers you see around its dial make a host of pilot-appropriate calculations possible, such as distances and air speed. This tool was necessary before the electronic calculator, but it is still useful today.

Preferred even by non-pilots, Breitling has a dedicated tutorial for the slide-rule bezel. This way, watch fans can learn how to use it.

If the Navitimer is for aviation, then Breitling Superocean is their dedicated diver’s watch collection.

The Superocean was created in the middle of the 1950’s dive watch boom. With a 200 meter water resistance, and a practical design of Arabic numerals and oversized hands, it beat its contemporaries impressively.

The Heritage line, launched on the Superocean’s 50th anniversary in 2007, pays homage to the inaugural model. It comes complete with a steel bracelet and the original 1950s logo. Perfect for sailing and watersports enthusiasts.

Building on the Superocean’s success and the growth in transcontinental flights, Breitling launched the Transocean line in the late ’50s.

It was consciously designed for frequent travelers, hence its stylish but relatively refined ’50s feel. It was discontinued for decades, but was relaunched in 2010 – this time, with Breitling’s in-house chronograph movements in the majority of the range.

These watches also exhibit an impressive 28,800 vibrations per hour, providing top notch precision. Perfect for frequent travelers, and those who want modern technology with a vintage look.

Breitling also makes versatile watches for a handful of situations. Enter the Breitling Chronomat and Avenger – designed to weather even the most extreme conditions.

The Chronomat is equipped with both a diver’s bezel and a chronograph function, and its water resistance ranges from 100 to 500m depending on the model.

The Avenger is similar to the Chronomat with its features, but it has a simpler case design and less busy dials. Both lines are perfect for those who want a multi functional watch – part diver, part pilot, with an imposing design.

But Breitling isn’t all about robustness. With the Breitling for Bentley line, they’ve proven that they can create professional grade instruments that are luxurious at the same time.

The Swiss watchmaker and British car manufacturer collaborated in 2002 to create a line of chronographs inspired by luxurious automobiles. Most of the watches feature a bezel inspired by the Bentley honeycomb radiator grille motif and a grand combination of colors.

Nothing says luxury like a Bentley; and combined with Breitling’s technical expertise, you get an elegant performance watch. Perfect for Bentley fans, and those who want an imposing sports watch, with a unique and eye-catching design.

And finally, we have Breitling’s Professional line. Living up to its tagline “Instruments for Professionals”, it does more than just tell time – it can save your life.

Comprised of the Emergency, Cockpit B50, and Aerospace ranges, these watches are robust, and specially designed to accompany adventurers.

For instance, the Emergency models are equipped with micro-transmitters that can send distress signals in case of emergencies. Thus helping the wearer to be rescued more rapidly. How’s that for a watch?

There you have it. Breitling’s premium and beautifully crafted collections. Which one do you think suits you best? Tell us in the comments section.
